I’ve been on the fence about posting this strip all week. Given all of the gender based garbage in the news these days (thank you, Todd Akin), making jokes like this feels a little like poking a hornet’s nest with a stick.
Maybe it’s that negativity gets all the attention or maybe I just happen to be really lucky when it comes to the guys that I have in my life. They’re all exceptionally wonderful people who, frankly, don’t deserve to be painted with the same brush as the yabbos we hear about.
My guys will wear pink ties, hold garage sales and poker games and stand in front of two hundred people in a bra, demonstrating self exams, to help raise money for breast cancer research.
My guys carry bags and hold doors open, regardless of who’s going through them, because it’s nice manners.
My guys play cars as well as tea-party with their daughters.
My guys make meals, do dishes and housework, without prompting, because it’s their home too.
My number-one guy, gets up early every morning to make coffee, just for me, before he goes to work.
Introducing the fellas to the comic will open up all kinds of opportunity for stereotypes and silliness, but I’d like to think that applies to the girls too, (after all, we can’t drive and only live to collect shoes!). There will be equal opportunity gender mockery.
