This is one of my favourite weeks of the whole year. Back to school, back to work, the heat is breaking and even some of the trees are starting to turn. There’s a terrific feeling of forward momentum and fresh starts. Personally, I think the new year should begin the day after Labour day. I for one would be more prepared to integrate resolutions into my daily life if I did it while there was already all of this routine-restructuring going on.
I went back to my list of New Year’s resolutions for 2010 and have to admit, I was a little disappointed with myself. It’s been a busy year for me with the job change and moving, which is not to make excuses because I still fell back on some bad habits, sacrificing the long term plan for the needs of the moment. I had to put the comic on hiatus, then I put the diet and work-out program on hiatus too, and overloaded my work schedule when there was already too much going on. In fairness to myself, there are circumstances in which that just can’t be helped, and I certainly made some better choices under fire than I have in the past. (Score one for learning experience!) But, I will save that for discussion in the new Weekend Weigh-In posts. (Starting back Friday, eep!)
Although I’m not exactly where I wanted to be goal-wise by this point in the year, I am still going ahead with the 10k Terry Fox run! I’ve never done 10k, but I’ve been running 5k consistently since I started back at the gym. I’m sure this will have to be a bit of an interval run, but I am determined to finish…no matter how long it may take. (eep!) I’m nervous, but excited about it. I’ve been following the Terry Fox foundation on facebook. They did a daily re-cap of where Terry was each day on his Marathon of Hope back in 1980 and it’s been so inspiring.
On a more personal note, I have to give a shout out to my niece, who is starting her very first day of school:
Have a great day Zoë! This is just the beginning.
Cheers to everybody’s new beginnings! Good luck in all your back to school, and back to work days!
